This is an extremely early OG-107 utility shirt from a late 1950s production run, considered the origin of the utility wear that came to represent the U.S. military.
The OG-107 utility shirt is a legendary piece of workwear that was used by the U.S. military for approximately 30 years, from its adoption in the early 1950s until the complete transition to BDU in the 1980s.From the latter stages of the Korean War through the Vietnam War and into the Cold War era, it continued to support soldiers in every situation—from combat training and maintenance to base duty. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the longest-serving work uniform in U.S. military history.
This item is an early production piece from the late 1950s, manufactured before the Vietnam War escalated in earnest. It retains a distinct atmosphere unique to early models—one that differs from later versions—and is highly sought after by collectors who have been collecting OG-107s for many years.
Its greatest appeal lies in the early-model US ARMY-colored nylon tape sewn onto the chest. This type was used during the transitional period before the shift to the “Black Letter” specification (commonly known as “Subdued”) that became prevalent in the 1960s; the vivid yellow lettering exudes a presence unique to the early OG-107. These subtle details allow you to sense the atmosphere of the U.S. military from the pre-Vietnam War era.
The fabric, of course, is a rich, time-worn cotton satin. Its supple texture and the character that deepens with wear are unique charms of vintage clothing that cannot be replicated in modern garments. The simple two-pocket design combines practicality with beauty, and even now, more than 70 years later, it remains as timeless as ever, continuing to be cherished by many vintage enthusiasts.
Condition
Used.
The stamp shows some wear, and there are signs of use commensurate with its age, but the fabric is sturdy, there is no major damage, and overall, it is in very good condition. As an OG-107 from before the Vietnam War, it is well-preserved and can be worn for many years to come.
In recent years, early production lots have been disappearing from the market, and well-preserved pieces—especially those featuring colored US ARMY nylon tape—are becoming increasingly difficult to find. This is not merely a utility shirt, but a historic piece that tells the story of the era when the U.S. military was heading to the Vietnam War. It is a highly recommended item that offers ample appeal for both collectors and everyday wear.
Please note that since this is a used item, returns are not accepted.
