This is the U.S. Army M-1947 (M-47) utility shirt, which carried on the legacy of the M-43 HBT utility shirt that saw action in World War II and was adopted from the postwar period through the Korean War.

This model is known as a garment that symbolizes the transitional period leading up to the OG-107 utility shirt, which later became the quintessential utility garment of the U.S. military. While retaining the herringbone twill (HBT) fabric of the WWII era, its silhouette and details shifted toward the postwar style, making it a historic model that truly captures the evolution of U.S. military utility wear. Later, cotton satin fabric was introduced, and HBT fabric was phased out.

In the early 1950s, during the Korean War, it was worn not only as workwear but also in various settings—such as in the field and on base—accompanying many soldiers in their daily duties.Later, in the mid-1950s, the fabric transitioned from HBT to the satin-based OG-107, making this M-47 a highly sought-after transitional model produced for only a short period.

While the size tag on this particular jacket remains, it is no longer legible. However, the patches sewn onto both sleeves at the time are still firmly in place, and judging by the degree of fading and the stitching, this is an authentic original piece that was actually worn back then—a jacket with a truly authentic feel. There are traces on the chest where the US ARMY tape was once attached, adding an authentic historical touch that conveys the sense that a soldier actually wore this jacket.

The fabric still displays the beautiful weave pattern characteristic of HBT, and its texture—softened by years of wear—is exceptional. It possesses a presence unique to vintage items that can never be found in new pieces, making it a garment you can fully enjoy not only as a collector’s item but also for everyday wear.
