The 1st Model Jungle Fatigue Jacket was developed as tropical combat gear during the early stages of the Vietnam War. Although this early model is highly sought after by collectors due to its scarcity, this particular piece is exceptionally appealing, bearing distinct signs of actual use by the USMC (U.S. Marine Corps).
Although the tag is missing, stitch marks remain in the correct positions on all three labels—the size label, contract label, and care label—confirming that this is a 1st Model manufactured around 1963–64.Furthermore, the glossy buttons and other details characteristic of the early model are well-preserved, fully embodying the features of an early jungle fatigue jacket.
The standout feature is the faint USMC stencil remaining on the chest. Although it has begun to fade from years of use, its presence attests to the fact that this jacket was actually issued and used by the Marine Corps.Additionally, the chest pocket and back feature names and handwritten identification marks that appear to have been written by the soldier himself; these markings lend the jacket the authentic atmosphere of a garment that saw actual combat use in the Marine Corps.
The epaulets on the shoulders have been repaired in the past; it is believed that the damaged epaulets were replaced with ones made from a different fabric. This serves as proof that the jacket was continuously used as a practical item and is a detail that conveys the authentic history of equipment that was heavily used on the battlefield.
The jacket shows signs of wear and fading throughout, reflecting its history of actual combat use. While one button on the back adjuster is missing, the rest of the buttons are the glossy ones characteristic of the early model.
