A combat shirt featuring the Beo Gam/Duck Hunter-style camouflage—one of the patterns emblematic of the early Vietnam War. The size is equivalent to A-M.

Like the dark-colored piece we featured previously, this shirt features a distinctive cut reminiscent of the “Asian Cut” seen in Tiger Stripe camouflage, but what makes this piece truly special is its beautifully advanced fading.

The Beo Gam pattern is characterized by a beige base layered with shades of green and brown. In this particular piece, years of wear, washing, and aging have softened the colors throughout, causing the areas that were originally brown to fade into a purplish hue.

This coloration is incredibly stylish.

When placed side by side with a piece that has retained its darker colors, the difference is immediately apparent. Although both are Beogam, the passage of time has given them completely different characters, making this a piece that fully captures the unique appeal of vintage camouflage.

Tracing the roots of Beogam leads to the U.S. military’s “Frog Skin” camouflage from World War II and the “Duck Hunter”-style hunting camouflage that later spread to the American civilian market. This camouflage lineage spread to postwar Southeast Asia, where it evolved into camouflage uniforms featuring a variety of fabrics, prints, and cuts.

During the Vietnam War, this camouflage was known to be closely associated not only with South Vietnamese military units but also with U.S. special forces, the Green Berets, and the CIDG, making it a particularly fascinating subject when discussing special forces gear from the early to mid-war periods.

This item is a shirt-style garment featuring an open collar, a button-front closure, large flap pockets on both sides of the chest, and buttoned cuffs. It exudes a strong atmosphere characteristic of locally made Southeast Asian clothing, distinct from the standard U.S. military-issued field uniforms.

The combination of the large pockets on both sides of the chest and the slightly compact silhouette is particularly striking. It shares a similar vibe with “Asian Cut”-style combat uniforms, such as those seen in the Tiger Stripe pattern, and its design evokes the very spirit of the Vietnam War era in the 1960s.

Furthermore, the overall condition of this particular piece is very appealing.

As is typical for used items, the fabric has faded throughout, giving it a slightly whitish, weathered appearance compared to darker pieces. However, there are no major visible scratches or stains, and it’s in excellent condition for a vintage piece.

Above all, the color shift from brown to purple is a natural patina that’s difficult to replicate artificially.

While a piece that retains its deep color allows you to appreciate “the print as it was back then,” this one lets you enjoy “the matured look of a Beogam that has truly aged over the years.”

Even within the same camouflage pattern, each piece has a unique character depending on the print’s shades, fabric, stitching, and the way it has faded. This piece truly embodies the thrill of collecting locally made camouflage uniforms from the Vietnam War era.

It has an overwhelming presence even when worn on its own and pairs exceptionally well with denim or military pants. At the same time, it’s a fascinating collectible piece for those tracking the gear used by special forces in the early stages of the Vietnam War.

We hope you’ll appreciate this Asian Cut, with its beautiful fade, as something distinct from the darker “Beo Gam” styles.

Including the purple hues developed over time, this is a truly captivating vintage piece.
