This is an Okinawa tiger-stripe shirt manufactured around 1965–66. It features a classic pattern known as the “Okinawa pattern” or “JWD (John Wayne Dense)”—one of the most iconic tiger-stripe designs—and is a legendary piece that was favored by many special forces units, the South Vietnamese Army, and U.S. special forces personnel from the early to mid-Vietnam War.
The bold black stripes and exquisite olive green color scheme make this one of the most iconic designs among the many tiger stripe patterns. It is truly the standard that comes to mind when someone sees a tiger stripe shirt for the first time and thinks, “This is the real deal.”
This particular shirt features the compact silhouette characteristic of the “Asian Cut.” At the time, Tiger Stripe shirts were primarily produced in sizes tailored for Asian body types, making larger sizes extremely rare. Although this item is on the smaller side, it retains a strong sense of the authentic atmosphere of the original era.
Although the size tag has been removed, the original stitching and details show no signs of alteration, confirming this as an authentic Tiger Stripe shirt produced during that era.
It is in excellent condition, with minimal fading and the fabric still retaining its body. There are no visible scratches, stains, or missing buttons, making it a highly satisfying piece for any collection. We confidently recommend this shirt not only for everyday wear but also as the perfect first addition to any Tiger Stripe collection.
