A classic representative of U.S. military desert camouflage, commonly known as “Chocolate Chip.” This is a 6-Color Desert Camouflage Combat Coat in the MEDIUM-SHORT size from the 1990 contract.
Designed for use in desert environments, this unique six-color camouflage features a base of tan, light brown, and brown, dotted with fine black and white specks. Due to its distinctive pattern, it is affectionately known as “Chocolate Chip” and became one of the U.S. military camouflage patterns synonymous with the Gulf War period of 1990–91.
According to the label, this item is DLA100-90-C-0320, from the 1990 contract. It was manufactured by EDCAR INDUSTRIES, INC., and is made of 50% nylon and 50% cotton. This jacket was procured just before the Gulf War began.
The front features four large, striking flap pockets. The combination of functional details—designed for combat—and the bold pattern unique to 6C Desert makes this a highly polished jacket, even when viewed as a piece of contemporary fashion. The fact that the camouflage pattern varies from piece to piece is a hallmark of authentic vintage items, and the way the brown tones blend into this particular jacket gives it a truly distinctive character.
The size is MEDIUM-SHORT. The label indicates HEIGHT 63–67 inches, CHEST 37–41 inches, and NATO SIZE 6070/9404. With a MEDIUM body width and a SHORT length, this size balance is particularly welcome as it fits Japanese people well.
While there are some signs of wear, the overall condition is good. The fabric still retains its rich color, and you can fully appreciate the contrast of the chocolate-chip camouflage pattern. There are some signs of aging typical of surplus items, such as minor fraying of the threads, but even with these, it’s a piece with great character.Both the size label and contract label are still firmly in place.
While the 6C Desert has become firmly established as a fashion item in recent years, its true appeal lies in the fabric, color, and details unique to an original piece made as actual military gear. With a 1990 contract, a MEDIUM-SHORT fit, and excellent condition, this is a piece we highly recommend for both practical use and as a collector’s item.
