An authentic U.S. military 6-COLOR DESERT CAMOUFLAGE COAT from 1983. Commonly known as the “Chocolate Chip,” this is one of the most iconic pieces of desert camouflage.

This highly distinctive six-color camouflage features a large beige-to-brown camouflage pattern designed for desert environments, dotted with small black and white spots. The pattern is inspired by the desert landscape dotted with pebbles and rocks, and thanks to its unique look, it has become a highly sought-after piece of military apparel today.

The inner label reads: COAT, CAMOUFLAGE PATTERN, DESERT, along with the contract number “DLA100-83-C-0574” and the contractor “SELMA APPAREL CORPORATION.” This is an item from the 1983 contract.

The fabric is 50% COTTON / 50% NYLON. It uses a cotton/nylon blend that would later be adopted in BDU uniforms.

The front features four large flap pockets. With the chest pockets positioned diagonally, it boasts a bold design that is quintessentially U.S. military combat jacket. The cuffs are adjustable with buttons. This is not merely a fashion item with a camouflage pattern; the functional beauty of a garment designed as actual military issue is evident throughout.

The size is the highly sought-after MEDIUM-REGULAR. The label still bears the specifications: CHEST 37–41 inches, HEIGHT 67–71 inches, and NATO SIZE “7080/9404.”

This 1980s “Chocolate Chip” jacket dates back to the early days of the 6-color desert camouflage pattern, which would later become widely recognized during the Gulf War of 1990–91.
