A 4th Model Jungle Fatigue Jacket actually worn by a U.S. Air Force officer stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War.
This is not just any 1969 jungle fatigues jacket.The chest features a “U.S. AIR FORCE” tape and name tag, as well as a name in Thai script, and the collar bears a rank insignia indicating “Captain.” An Air Force wing insignia is also sewn onto the chest. This is a highly atmospheric piece that powerfully evokes the context of its deployment in Thailand.
During the Vietnam War, Thailand served as a critically important base for the U.S. Air Force, supporting air operations throughout Southeast Asia. Air operations were conducted from multiple bases within Thailand, and many U.S. Air Force personnel were stationed there. The name tag on this jacket, which combines English and Thai characters, is a particularly captivating detail that evokes the context of service in that region.
The jacket is a 4th Model Jungle Fatigue Jacket, representative of the latter half of the Vietnam War. It features a lightweight cotton ripstop fabric and a classic design with four large, diagonally arranged pockets.
The size is marked as SMALL-REGULAR (S-R). The inner label is still intact, which is a particularly welcome feature for a vintage jungle fatigue jacket.
And what’s most impressive of all is the aging of this particular piece.
While the overall olive green color remains vivid, only the edges—such as the collar, pocket flaps, cuffs, and seams—have faded to a whitish hue due to wear. Combined with the distinctive grid pattern of the ripstop fabric, this creates a wonderful character that can only be found in a jungle fatigue jacket that has actually been worn.
The patches are all unified with a black base, creating a striking contrast against the olive green body. The chest area, in particular—where the “Captain” rank insignia on both collars, the “U.S. AIR FORCE” tape, the wings, and the name tags in both English and Thai characters are concentrated—is truly spectacular.
While it shows signs of wear, it is in good overall condition considering its age. This is a piece that allows you to appreciate its history of wear—a completely different experience from a near-new item.
The fact that it’s a 1969 4th Model alone makes it a staple of any Vietnam War collection, but a piece that combines the “U.S. AIR FORCE,” “officer,” “stationed in Thailand,” and “name in Thai script” elements truly sets it apart from ordinary fatigues.
