Australian Army Jungle Green Tropical Combat Trousers, manufactured in 1967 during the Vietnam War.
The issued label remaining on the inside bears the inscription “YAKKA PTY. LTD. / VICTORIA / 1967,” one of Australia’s leading workwear manufacturers. You can also clearly see the Broad Arrow, indicating Australian military issue, the stock number “8405-66-012-3402,” and sizes up to 17.
The year 1967 marks the period when the Australian Army was fully deploying troops to the Vietnam War. Designed for operations in the hot and humid climate of Southeast Asia, these Jungle Green combat trousers are one of the iconic items symbolizing the Australian Army of that era.
The unique details—completely different from the U.S. Army’s jungle fatigues—are the greatest appeal of these pants.
Deep pleats on the front create a very roomy fit around the waist. They feature a wide waistband with button-fastened belt loops, as well as buckle-style waist adjusters on both sides.
A single cargo pocket with a flap is positioned on one thigh. The back features two flap pockets on either side, and the brown buttons complement the jungle green fabric beautifully. Although they are military issue, their exceptionally neat construction evokes a sense of British military style.
Above all, this particular pair is in excellent condition—it’s brand-new and has never been worn.
The fabric shows almost no signs of wear, and the olive green color remains deep and vivid. Although this is an authentic piece of military issue from 1967—more than half a century old—it’s in a condition that allows you to develop the fabric’s character and silhouette over time.
This pair is a size 17, one size smaller than the size 18 featured previously. It’s fascinating that different sizes of these 1967 YAKKA pants still exist; comparing multiple pairs reveals the very structure of the Australian military uniform system from that era.
Australian military gear from the Vietnam War era offers a unique appeal distinct from that of U.S. military gear. It features a characteristic wide silhouette, intricate construction around the waist, and a cargo pocket on only one side. Furthermore, this is an unused item that still bears the official YAKKA / 1967 issue label.
This is an attractive pair, whether you want to actually wear it and enjoy how it ages over time or keep it as part of a collection of Australian military uniforms from the Vietnam War era.
