This is a jungle shirt believed to be a prototype or test sample from the WWII era—a very interesting item that rarely appears on the market. Size: M.
During World War II, the U.S. military conducted research and development on various types of uniforms in anticipation of operations in tropical regions. However, much of the tropical clothing actually adopted at the time was made of HBT (herringbone twill) fabric, making items like this one—made from lightweight cotton poplin—extremely rare.
At first glance, its simple construction is reminiscent of later jungle fatigues, but it dates back much further and features details that reflect the transitional period of U.S. military clothing development in the 1940s.The large chest pocket, the simple construction designed for lightness, and the use of plain-weave poplin fabric instead of HBT suggest that this may have been a prototype produced during the research phase for lightweight combat uniforms intended for tropical environments.
In fact, during the war, the U.S. military struggled to cope with the hot and humid conditions on the Pacific Front and in the China-Burma-India Theater, resulting in numerous prototype garments that would later lead to the postwar OG-107 utility shirt and the jungle fatigues of the Vietnam War era. This item is believed to be part of that development history, and its rarity is evident from the fact that no detailed records have survived.
Only a small size tag is attached to the inside of the collar; no detailed label, such as those found on standard-issue items, is visible. This simple design is one of the characteristics often seen in prototypes or items produced in small quantities.
This is a collector’s item that holds historical value not only as military wear but also as a document of U.S. military clothing development history. It is an extremely niche piece known only to connoisseurs.

Used.
There are signs of light wear and aging throughout, but fading is relatively minimal, and the fabric is in good condition. No noticeable tears or major damage were found, and it remains in very good condition for a garment that is nearly 80 years old.
Although there is very little documentation available and the details of this specific item remain unclear, it is a fascinating collector’s piece, especially given its mysterious background.
