This is a navy blue coat for an officer of the Imperial Japanese Navy, privately procured or tailored in the 1940s. The fabric has been treated with a fabric that was relatively hard and probably waterproof. The coat is heavy with thick fabric and heavy weight. There is some fading, but it is in relatively good condition and clean. It is well lined, and because it was personally worn by a fashionable officer of the Japanese Navy, it differs from the general issued items in that it is a lawn-like finish with a British-style design.
